Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a part of the Brethren denomination?

No, we are not part of the Brethren denomination. People have often confused us with the Brethren denomination because the word “Brethren” is in our church name.  The church is presently in transition to change the church name in order to avoid this misunderstanding, as well as to dispell any misperception that the church is sexist.  The Brethren in Christ Church has ordained clergy consisting of both women and men.

How long is the service?

The Sunday morning Worship Services begins at 10 a.m. and concludes by 11:15 a.m.  A typical service includes worship in song, prayer and the pastor’s homily.

What is the mosaic of your church?

Oak Ridges is multicultural and intergenerational church consisting of people ranging from those who have embraced Christian faith for most of their lives to people who are in the process of exploring faith.

What should I wear?

Dress however you feel most comfortable! Our aim is to provide an atmosphere where people are free to attend just as they are. We believe God is much more concerned about what is on the inside rather than what is on the outside. As a result of the multi-generational nature of the church’s community, you will see clothing styles ranging from suits to jeans! We only ask that you dress mod_DSC2029estly.

What is the music like?

We embrace a wide mix of songs, including hymns as well as past and latest worship songs.  They are led by one of our worship leaders and team which includes the use of piano, guitars and drums. The lyrics of each song are projected so that you can easily follow along. If any of the songs are new to you, don’t worry if you miss a beat or two!

What is the preaching / teaching like?

The sermon is about 20 – 25 minutes. Although the topics vary from week to week, our desire is to strive for cultural relevance that results in a deeper sense of God’s presence, closer relationship with God’s people and creation, as well as a personal life calibration. We believe that God is able to speak to people through truths presented from the Bible as we seek to study it together.

Is there something for my children \ youth to attend?

Every Sunday morning there is a Kidz Club that meet during the worship service, following the music portion of the service ( formal dismissal ).  There are Sunday school classes for children and youth following the worship service, beginning at 11:30 a.m.  TNT Youth ( Tuesday Nights Together ) is a shared gathering with the Heise Hill Church ( check the weekly schedule for location ).

Where are you located?
